2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in Pokémon TCG history. Between the Mega Evolution era hitting full stride, monster chase cards breaking the $1,000 mark, and a 30th Anniversary set on the horizon, collectors have more to chase than ever.
At The People's Card Shop in Las Vegas, we see what our collectors and players are pulling, buying, and hunting for every single day. This guide breaks down the best Pokémon cards and sets to collect in 2026 based on what is actually moving in the market right now — not speculation, but what we are seeing at the counter and in the display case.

The 2026 Pokémon TCG Landscape
The Mega Evolution era has completely changed the collecting game. The return of Mega Pokémon combined with the Special Illustration Rare (SIR) format has produced some of the most valuable and visually stunning cards the modern TCG has ever seen. If you have been out of the hobby for a few years, now is the time to pay attention.
Here is what has dropped so far in 2026 and what is still coming:
- Ascendant Heroes (January 2026) — The largest set in Pokémon TCG history at 295 cards. This is the set everyone is talking about.
- Perfect Order (March 2026) — Legends: Z-A tie-in with strong competitive and collector appeal.
- Chaos Rising (May 2026) — Mega Greninja focused. Just released and sealed product is moving fast.
- Pitch Black (July 2026) — Dark-themed set featuring Darkrai. Dropping soon.
- 30th Anniversary Collection (September 2026) — The one everyone is waiting for. All-foil packs, Base Set Charizard reprint, 30 unique Pikachu illustrations, and a brand new "Futuristic Rare" rarity.
Top Chase Cards of 2026
These are the cards our customers are hunting the hardest right now. If you are looking for the best Pokémon cards to collect in 2026, start here.
Mega Gengar ex SIR (Ascendant Heroes)

The undisputed king of 2026 chase cards. The Mega Gengar ex Special Illustration Rare from Ascendant Heroes has climbed above $1,100 raw and is the most expensive English Pokémon card printed this year. The artwork is dark, detailed, and immediately recognizable — the first Mega Gengar in the TCG since the XY Phantom Forces era over a decade ago. With a pull rate of roughly 1 in 1,540 packs for any specific SIR, this card is not easy to find. We have seen a few come through our display case and they do not last long.
Here is what the hunt looks like — watch this Ascendant Heroes ETB opening chasing the Mega Gengar:
Mega Charizard Y ex (Ascendant Heroes)

It would not be a Pokémon chase card list without Charizard. The Mega Charizard Y ex from Ascendant Heroes has all the characteristics of a long-term hold — iconic Pokémon, elite artwork, and the Mega Evolution nostalgia factor that drives collector demand year after year.
Mega Dragonite ex SIR (Ascendant Heroes)

Dragonite has always been a fan favorite, and the Mega Dragonite ex SIR is one of the best-looking cards in the entire set. The soft, full-scene pastel artwork with angelic wings makes this card stand out immediately. It flies under the radar compared to Gengar and Charizard, which might make it the better long-term pickup for collectors who want value before the market catches up.
Umbreon ex SIR (Prismatic Evolutions)

Technically a late 2025 release, but the Umbreon ex SIR from Prismatic Evolutions is still the single most valuable modern Pokémon card heading into mid-2026 at $1,000 or more raw with PSA 10s commanding significant premiums. The Eeveelution SIRs from this set are some of the most visually stunning cards ever printed. If you are building a high-end modern collection, this is the centerpiece card.
Lillie's Determination SIR (Mega Evolution)

The most popular Pokémon card purchased in 2026 so far according to TCGPlayer data. Lillie is a beloved character from Pokémon Sun and Moon, the SIR artwork is beautiful, and the competitive utility keeps demand high from both collectors and players. The SIR version runs around $65 raw with PSA 10s pushing $200 — making it one of the more accessible chase cards on this list and a solid entry point for newer collectors.
Best Sets to Buy Sealed in 2026
If you are a sealed collector or investor, here is where to focus.
1. Ascendant Heroes

The biggest set of the year and possibly the decade. With 295 cards, 22 SIRs, confirmed God Packs (roughly 1 in 2,000 packs), and multiple chase cards valued over $500, Ascendant Heroes is the flagship Pokémon product of 2026. Important note — this is a special expansion like 151 and Prismatic Evolutions, so there are no booster boxes. You are buying ETBs, Tins, Collection Boxes, and Booster Bundles. The Booster Bundle (6 packs, $25 MSRP) is the best value sealed product.
2. 30th Anniversary Collection (Pre-Order When Available)

If history is any guide — and Celebrations proved this — anniversary sets outperform standard expansions for long-term sealed value. The 30th Anniversary Collection is the first-ever worldwide simultaneous Pokémon TCG launch. Every pack is all-foil (6 foil cards per pack versus 5 in standard), it introduces the "Futuristic Rare" rarity featuring artwork by renowned Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN, includes a Base Set Charizard reprint, and features 30 unique Pikachu illustrations with one guaranteed per pack. This is the most significant Pokémon TCG release since Base Set. Buy at MSRP before release day if you can.
3. Prismatic Evolutions

The Eeveelution SIRs from Prismatic Evolutions are some of the most visually stunning cards ever printed, and sealed product demand has not cooled since release. ETBs from this set are solid long-term holds.
Collecting Tips from the Counter
After watching thousands of Pokémon transactions come through our store, here are a few things we have learned that most online guides will not tell you:
- Buy singles for your collection, sealed for long-term holds. If you want a specific chase card, buying the single is almost always cheaper than ripping packs to find it. Save the sealed product for sets you believe will appreciate.
- Condition matters more than ever. The grading market has made centering and surface quality a real factor in card value. PSA 10 slabs command significant premiums over raw copies for every card on this list.
- Do not sleep on Trainer cards. Lillie's Determination, Dawn, and Boss's Orders (Ghetsis) are all showing strong collector demand. Full art Trainer cards with popular characters can rival Pokémon cards for value.
- Anniversary sets are different. The 30th Anniversary set is not a normal expansion — it is a limited commemorative product. Treat it differently than a standard set release.
- God Packs are real. Ascendant Heroes has confirmed God Packs at roughly 1 in 2,000 packs containing 3 Mega Attack Rares and 7 SIRs. If you pull one, sleeve the entire pack immediately.
